What is Involved in Becoming a Donor?
When you register your interest in becoming a brain donor you will be asked to complete the initial prescreen to gauge your suitability for this program. When this is confirmed you will be sent a consent kit that contains all information and consent forms. It includes a detailed Self Report questionnaire to gather valuable information on lifestyle and general health issues. You will be asked to participate in neuropsychological assessments in the form of questionnaires (on hold until 2011). We will contact you every year to enquire if your health and lifestyle has changed.
The 'Using our Brains' program is a unique opportunity for you to contribute a gift to neuroscience research. During your life, any information that is obtained that can be identified with you will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission or except as required by law. By signing the consent kit, after your death your tissue will be stored and made available to researchers from leading neuroscience centres both national and international that apply to the NSW Tissue Resource Centre. Researchers may publish results, however information will be provided in such a way that you cannot be identified.
